Ultimate Close to Home Tour – 1.5 days

The Close to Home Tour begins with enjoying all of the convenient and fun amenities at Barilla Holiday Park. The tour then takes a day to explore locations around Hobart and close to the park.

This tour allows you to take time to wind down, relax and enjoy everything we offer at Barilla Holiday Park including mini-golf, delicious food, great accommodation and friendly customer service.

The second part of the tour takes you on a leisurely journey through Richmond, a quaint heritage town. The later part of your day will be spent getting up close and personal with some Tasmanian wildlife at Bonorong Wildlife Park, before enjoying the atmosphere of Salamanca for dinner.

Time: 1.5 days

  • Get up close and personal with Tasmanian wildlife including Tasmanian Devils, Kangaroos and Wombats at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • Enjoy a leisurely dinner at Salamanca – the heart of Hobart’s social scene.

Day 1

2pm Arrive at Barilla. Settle in at your accommodation and enjoy the park’s surrounds. Whether you are staying in one of our convenient holiday cabins or parking your RV onto our beautiful site, you’ll be greeted with warm service and staff who are happy to answer any of your questions. Our park has a great camp kitchen, modern bathroom facilities, a playground and a swim spa.

 

3.30pm – 5.30pm Putt and Play Mini Golf.

We’re lucky to have a great mini-golf course onsite at the Barilla Holiday Park. The course features 19 holes of pint-sized fun that will keep even an avid golfer entertained. It’s easy to book in so simply mention this activity at your time of check in and our staff will arrange booking.  Prices: $14 per adult, $8 per child or $40 for a family of 2 adults, 2 children.

 

6pm Dinner at Nate’s Gourmet Restaurant

Make life easy by ordering a pizza from Nate’s Gourmet Restaurant. Nate creates delicious wood fired pizzas and a range of other yummy food – so you’ll be spoilt for choice and mixing with the locals who love the restaurant. The best thing is that it’s on site and you can relax without having to drive anywhere!

 

When you return to your cabin make sure to keep a watch out for the small wildlife who also call Barilla home. We have Bandicoots, Native hens, Blue Tongue lizards and She Oak Skinks.

Day 2

10 am Richmond

After an easy breakfast, set off for the delightful village of Richmond, a 6 minute drive north of Barilla Holiday Park.

Established in the 1820s, Richmond was initially part of the route between Port Arthur and Hobart and an important town for farming within the Coal River Valley. The township features, the famous Richmond Bridge, churches, a heritage gaol, the oldest Roman Catholic Church in Australia and is full of delightful Georgian era buildings.

Richmond is a lovely township to wander through and enjoy a lunch. You will find art galleries, craft and souvenir shops and cafes. You can get great icecream, lollies, chocolate, cheese, wine and bakery items throughout the village so you will be sure to find something for everyone.

You can easily spend most of the day in Richmond, exploring and enjoying this beautiful town.

 

3pm Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary

Once you’re ready to leave Richmond, head west to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Bonorong is a social enterprise that runs a 24 hour wildlife rescue service, wildlife hospital and allows visitors to get up close and personal with some of Tasmania’s most endangered species.

 

It’s an amazing experience where you can see Tasmanian Devils, Wombats, Kangaroos and so many more amazing animals. Bonorong is a must-do if you’re visiting the south of Tasmania. Plus, entry tickets directly fund the sanctuary, so visitors are a special part of protecting Tasmania’s wildlife.

Entry Fees include a bag of food to feed the kangaroos and a 45 minute sanctuary tour. Tours are held at 11am, 2pm and 3.30pm each day. Check their website for entry fees. (https://www.bonorong.com.au/all-experiences)

 

5.30pm Salamanca

Before heading back to your Barilla Holiday Park accommodation, drop past the iconic Salamanca waterfront area for a casual dinner. There are so many food options to choose from so walk along the waterfront area and pick whatever takes your fancy!

 

8.00pm Barilla Holiday Park

Return to your accommodation at Barilla Holiday Park for a restful evening before continuing on your journey the next day.

Is it easy to find parking at the attractions on this tour?

This tour has been designed to give you plenty of options when driving yourself. Richmond and the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary have plenty of parking available. In Salamanca, you’ll find lots of on-street parking options but please obey parking signs, some fees may apply.
