If you want a great day-trip idea to take during you stay at Barilla Holiday Park, why not head out to Russell Falls at Mount Field?
Tasmania has so many waterfalls to enjoy and Russell Falls is perhaps the most popular for visitors to enjoy. You can find Russell Falls in the Mount Field National Park which is a 1 hour and 20 minute drive from Barilla Holiday Park.
Russell Falls is a spectacular multi-tiered waterfall. It is the most photographed waterfall in Tasmania, not only because it is so beautiful, but also because it is easily accessed. To get to the waterfall you follow a clear walkway. The walkway is purpose built for the large number of visitors and is even wheelchair friendly.
You will be enchanted by the mossy, cool forest walk that leads to the base of the waterfall. It is a 25-minute return walk from the visitor centre to the waterfall.
Sharing the Mount Field National Park are two other waterfalls – Lady Barron Falls and Horseshoe Falls. Both are worth walking to if you have time.
Russell Falls isn’t the only attraction in Mount Field National Park. The park has an incredible and diverse range of plants that are spread across the area which changes dramatically with the increase in altitude. Lake Dobson has a great walk where you can see lots of unique flora and if you are lucky enough to visit in Autumn you might witness the fagus (a deciduous beech tree that is native to Tasmania) changing into spectacular reds and golds.
Your can find out more information about Mount Field and Russell Falls through the Parks Tasmania website.
